Modern sports

Sport is one of the few activities that unite all countries all over the world irrespective of their political systems, religions, worldviews, sets of beliefs and prejudices. Sport is something that's characteristic for humanity from the beginning of its existence, and as we all know, it's rooted in ancient times when first sporting competitions were held. But its origins can be traced in even earlier history, as the major characteristic of sport is competitiveness, and competitiveness is one of the core traits of the human character. A human has always striven to be stronger, faster, better, more powerful than anybody else. That's why today different sports are developed and respected in Asia, Europe, America and Africa - all over the world. And it really doesn't matter at a sport competition whether you are a communist or a democrat, a Muslim or a Catholic, a black or white person. The only thing that matters is your strength, speed, grace, will. And the main goal of a sportsman is to show the whole world what a human body is capable of, so that others respect and praise you.
As anything else in the world, sport as an activity is constantly developing, acquiring new forms and providing new possibilities. The number of sports competitions held around the world every year, both on the local and international levels is even hard to determine today, as there is no single board or body that regulates all sports activities around the globe. And this is a good thing – sport is not an industry that can be monopolized by one group of people who want to establish their own rules and make money on it. Of course, there are hundreds of special boards, committees and bodies that deal with particular practical issues connected with particular sports, like football committees, International Olympic Committee, boxing federations and many others. They are acknowledged and respected organizations that have been created to regulate specific activities and promote these particular kinds of sports among the citizen of the planet.
Modern kinds of sports existing today number hundreds of disciplines that are divided into tens of categories and even more subcategories. Every year new activities are becoming more and more popular, then, if they become popular enough, they are introduced in the list of Olympic disciplines, which is a sign of their final acknowledgement by the world community.
