Motocross

Motocross is one of the existing motorcycle sports. It is a style of riding a motorcycle on a specially designed track. Unlike conventional motorbikes, motocross bikes are especially made to be able to ride on dirt roads, high slopes, jumping - off places, and so on. The list of artificial obstacles may include abrupt turns, wavy tracks and some others. The word motocross itself stands for two shortened words: motorbike and cross country. With time the word got shortened to MX. Besides motorcycles very often quad bikes (four-wheel bikes) are used.

Motocross competitions were first held in Great Britain. Later on this sport gradually grew in popularity due to its spectacular character and currently, as many other modern sports, it has evolved into several sub-disciplines which are nevertheless the same in their nature. The difference is only the type of bikes used (two or four-wheeled), types of tracks, and various rules involved. The modern versions of motocross are Supercross and Arenacross that are held indoors - huge artificial dirt tracks are deliberately created within big arenas like stadiums. Due to the size of the track only 25 riders can take part in the competition (as compared with 40 racers on outdoor tracks which can be not artificial but natural. The major difference between the bikes used is whether they have a two-cycle or a four-cycle motor. All modern motocross bikes have improved suspension systems due to which the stunning tricks and jumps have become possible.
